As with all things, the market must have become saturated by 1966 - so how to make it exciting for the G.I. Joe enthusiast of the time period?  Well, Mattel had successfully been market talking dolls for a few years.  Take a cue from Mattel, Hasbro decided making Joe talk was the "new" push they needed.  So, in 1967 a new GI Joe figure was released - the Talking Action GI Joe.  Once again, representing all 4 military branches.  The talking solider included the following:

As the 60's progressed, America became more and more involved in a war abroad that was, to say the least, a bit unpopular with much of the American public. To de-emphasize the military theme of the G.I. Joe line, Hasbro began reinventing G.I. Joe as an action adventurer. As Joe moved into the 70's, his initial introduction had him still appearing in military style generic clothing but his accessories dealt with fighting wild animals, spying, among other "adventure" style activities. Furthermore, Joe now sports a hair style that is more "life like" than just a painted head! (Those into intimate details will note that Hasbro begins reusing the original Soldier stock number). Continuing with the successful talking figures, they introduced the Talking Man of Action (basically a retread of the Talking Soldier).  The boxed set included:

• G.I. JOE Action Figure - with talking mechanism activated by pulling on his dog tag - same sayings as the Talking Soldier.
• Combat Boots, Short Black
• Military Cap (Incised "G.I. JOE HASBRO MADE IN THE U.S.A.")
• Insignia - A.T. Style chest decal
• Talking Instructions
• Box Insert with Talking Soldier Phrases

The Talking Man of Action said the following phrases:

1. GI Joe U.S. Army...reporting for duty
2. Take the jeep and get some ammo, fast!
3. This is Charlie Company...send reinforcements
4. Cover me...I'll get that machine gun
5. Take Hill 79...move out
6. All units...commence firing
7. Medic, get that stretcher up here
8. Enemy planes...hit the dirt!
