Captain Action Ideal 1967 Set Nick Fury
Agent of Shield V1: No Beard No Mustache
O.K. Superhero fans. Before Mego was even a thought, Ideal's answer
to the ever popular GI Joe, Captain Action was the first action figure
that was truly action. Prior to this, superhero figures were relegated to
army men type of figures (check out the Marx line of statues and Ideal's
own playset figures) and tin wind up toys. Amazingly, Ideal was able to
pull off what could be almost impossible today - a cross licensing of
characters from both DC, Marvel, and other popular characters (read Green
Hornet, Buck Rogers, Lone Ranger, etc).
This listing is for an accessory to the original Captain Action 1967
outfit - Nick Fury. Before he was African-American. Before he had the eye
patch. Before he was an international spy. Nick Fury was a WWII Army
Sergent and hero - commanding the Howling Commandos! It's interesting to
note that Ideal could easily have created an outfit for the "then
current/modern" version of Fury as Agent of SHIELD - eye patch and
all. But we suspect they felt a soldier would be a nice way to
compete with GI Joe. Surely, though, a Captain Action Colonel Fury
decked out in all his spy gear and classic eye patch is long over due!
Although the Sgt. Fury Captain Action costume was in the first run
outfits, it's actually one of the harder ones to find. We love that
Ideal used Jack Kirby artwork to adorn the box!
The Nick Fury costume had some major variations to it. Here's what came
with a complete set (along with the variations known to us) - all
equipment is green with silver highlights:
- Face Mask
- Variant 1: No Beard No Mustache
- Variant 2: Beard, Mustache
- Variant 3: Mustache, no Beard

- Similar to Marx Stoney Smith but there are differences we won't
highlight here
- Walkie Talkie
- Bandolier
- Machine Gun
- .45 Automatic
- Gun Belt with Pouches
