Picture this, if you will. It's summer of 1989 and we happen to be running errands in downtown San Jose when we see a sign for a small comic show that we hadn't heard about. We decide to take a tour…midday - even though 'all the good stuff will be gone'. Inside we run across a dealer we know who has a comic shop in the San Francisco bay area and deals in specialty items - some from the local talents of ILM and Galoob. He shows us not one but TWO pair of the carded prototype figures of Wesley and Romulan. His price is more than our budget but a friend happens to be selling at the show and lends us the money (and a 35 plus year old re-Thanks! To Mike M!). And we sit on them for over 25 years. Finances being what they are - we did end up selling the pair on two separate occasions. The Wesley you see here we recently acquired. For just a tad more than we paid in 1989! Lol. But such is the way of things. It's now available for sale. Graded by AFA. A truly scarce piece of Trek Toy history!

Star Trek Galoob 1989 TNG Wesley 1st Generation Prototype MOC

Listing is for a Star Trek Galoob 1989 TNG Wesley 1st Generation Prototype MOC.

Unfortunately for toy enthusiasts, the first series (1988) line of Star Trek toys had soft sales - and Galoob's production of Star Trek toys was cancelled midstream in it's second year. This lead to roughly 1/2 the items listed in catalogs and cross promoted on other Galoob Trek merchandise to be cancelled. The unproduced Wesley Crusher and Romulan prototype figures have become action figure holy grails. The first generation prototypes were mounted on existing cards - we've seen Riker and/or Picard used - by the Hong Kong manufacturer. Second generation prototypes would later be mounted on "correct" character cards. We have never seen a true accounting, but speculation is that no more than a few dozen of each of these exist.
