Hartland 9" Cowboy 1950s MIB LONE RANGER Walking All Original Co

Item History (General)[Show/Hide]

Lone Ranger - A brief history
"A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty "Hi Yo Silver!" The Lone Ranger. "Hi Yo Silver, away!" With his faithful Indian companion Tonto, the daring and resourceful masked rider of the plains, led the fight for law and order in the early west. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear. The Lone Ranger rides again!"

Perhaps the most famous Western hero of all is Mr. Reid A.K.A. The Lone Ranger.  The Lone Ranger's adventures began in the early days of radio - in 1933 - and he has been portrayed in comic books, movies, and television.  Many different actors have portrayed the Lone Ranger - with arguably the most famous being television star Clayton Moore.

The origin of the Lone Ranger has changed a bit over time but the generally accepted one follows: six Texas Rangers are ambushed and all of the rangers are shot and left for dead. An Indian, Tonto, comes upon the massacre and discovers one lone ranger still alive. Tonto nurses the wounded man back to health.  The Lone Ranger made a mask which enabled him to hide his identity and to pose as an outlaw to get near the gang that ambushed them.  Later, Lone Ranger and Tonto learn that most of the outlaws had been hanged or imprisoned. In honor of his slain ranger brothers, he continued to wear his mask and vowed to continue to fight evil doers.  And who can forget the ending tag line of most episodes..."who was that masked man?"..."Why it's the LONE RANGER!!"

Did you know...in the late 1970s, the corporate owners of the Lone Ranger forbid Clayton Moore from wearing the mask at public appearances!  He substituted by wearing dark ski glasses.  Bowing to public sympathy, the corporate owners eventually changed their minds.
Another fun fact....at one time the Lone Ranger was said to be the great-uncle (and later great, great uncle) of the Britt Reid..A.K.A the Green Hornet!
