"All Metal Savings Bank with Lock and Key" - by the Metal Moss MFG., CO.
"It's fun to 'bank' the LOONEY TUNES MERRIE MELODIES way"
"Colorful; Hand Painted; Washable"
"'Bank' with Hollywood's Most Famous CARTOON Characters"
"© WARNER BROS. CARTOONS, INC."
Warner Bros really missed the mark when it came to licensing it's characters.
Their output in the 1930's and 40's is a drop in the bucket when compared to
what Disney was doing. The set of painted metal banks they released in the
40's are one of the nicer items released. The set consisted of 6 figures
with 2 variations (the figures, themselves, are constant in both versions.
The variation comes into play with each character standing next to either a tree
trunk or a wooden barrel) for a total of 12 banks. The characters
represented were Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Sniffles, Porky Pig, Beaky, and Elmer
Fudd. Each character stood next to either the barrel or tree trunk - the
bank mechanism being the barrel or tree truck. Collected money could be
fetched via an included key that opens a small trap underneath. Be careful
to note that due to the weight of the metal and the thin paint jobs (not to
mention 60 years of being around), paint jobs on these are incredibly difficult
to find in decent condition. Each bank is roughly 4 1/2 inches high and
the base is 5 3/4 inches by 3 inches and originally came in a nice, colorful box
that measured 6" x 6" x 3" deep.
Porky Pig
This is a Porky Pig bank with barrel. He stands next to a barrel - in
familiar pose with hands behind his back. Although created as a star of
the studio, Porky has become most familiar in the role of sidekick and
"everyman". |
